Need help with MarkView?

MarkView is a lightweight, privacy-focused Markdown reader for iPhone and iPad. It opens local Markdown files from the Files app or system Share Sheet, renders them on your device, and keeps the app read-only.

Common Questions

Does MarkView upload my documents?

No. MarkView reads and renders your Markdown files locally on your device. Your documents are not uploaded to us.

Does MarkView require an account?

No. MarkView does not require account creation or login.

How can I open a Markdown file?

You can open supported Markdown files from the Files app or send them to MarkView through the system Share Sheet.

What are the Share and Action extensions for?

They let you send a supported Markdown file to MarkView from another app. MarkView accepts one .md, .markdown, .mdown, or .mkdn file, keeps the handoff local through its App Group inbox, and opens it in the main app as a read-only document.

What Markdown content does MarkView render?

MarkView is built for common Markdown documents, including notes, READMEs, long text files, tables, code blocks, Mermaid diagrams, and math formulas.

Why can't MarkView reopen a file?

If a file was moved, deleted, or if file access expired, MarkView may not be able to reopen it. You can open the file again from the Files app to restore access.

Can MarkView edit Markdown files?

No. MarkView is designed as a read-only Markdown reader.
